Police shot and killed two more pit bull dogs this week

A beautiful red nosed pitbull, and thankfully NOT one of the pits shot
There is a huge debate over this one for me personally, because I love all the bull dog breeds, but at the same time these two dogs were going to kill if they weren’t stopped, and their target was my favorite dog breed in the whole world.

Two police officers involved were actually out on another call when they saw the two pit bulls attacking an English bulldog in its yard. Both of the English bulldog’s owners were thankfully home and in the yard with their dog. They grabbed brooms and were desperately attempting to beat the pit bulls away from their dog. But the pit bulls were so aggressive, and so determined to kill the bulldog, that the owners were actually in danger of getting attacked themselves.

The police officers had to make a judgment call, and they decided that for the safety of themselves, the owners of the bulldog, and the survival of the English bulldog , they had no choice but to shoot the pitbulls.

One of the officers involved is actually a seasoned canine handler, and has seen how dangerous dog fights can be, not just for the dogs, but for the people that are trying to save the canine victim.

I really can’t see any good alternatives to the actions taken, other than I wish that the owners of the pit bulls had done a better job of containing their dogs. I doubt there was any way that anyone present could have stopped the fight once it had started.

When dogs are fighting, their adrenaline is going and they are in a heavy defense mode. Even if their own master were to try to reach in and separate them, the person could get bit. Not because the dog meant to hurt anyone, but because it’s fighting for its life and it instinctively knows it has to react instantly to any grabbing jaws or hands.

It’s heartbreaking that two dogs had to be killed, but I know that if it were Abbie being attacked, I would hope that someone would jump in to save her as well. This whole tragic event could have been avoided if the pit bulls had not gotten loose.
