English Bulldog Abused and Neglected

Sampson the English BulldogIt’s hard to look at the massive lump on this poor bulldog’s head and not want to give his abusive owner a matching injury, or worse.

Sampson the bulldog made his first appearance at a Mesa veterinary hospital in 2007 for a shattered front leg. At that time the veterinarians on staff told Sampson’s owner, Wayne Fuller, that the bulldog would require surgery to heal properly. Fuller apparently decided that he didn’t agree, and refused to act on the veterinarians recommendations.

Then within just one month Sampson was back at the hospital with a huge bump on his head. Considering his past negligence of the bulldog’s health needs, veterinarians were understandably suspicious of the injury, and questioned Fuller on it.

The real truth didn’t come out until shortly after that visit when Fuller gave the bulldog to a woman, admitting that he had hit the bulldog. The new owner took the injured bulldog in for treatment, where the veterinarian found several more injuries; including a large hematoma on Sampson’s head, numerous bone fractures throughout his body, and even an untreated neck fracture!

The Maricopa Sheriff’s office explained that with such severe injuries Sampson had to be humanely euthanized, but they weren’t going to let Fuller off so easy. They started looking heavily into Fuller’s past with the bulldog and then received information that Fuller had fled the state of Arizona and gone to California in an attempt to avoid arrest.

A warrant was issued and Fuller was quickly taken into custody. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona on one felony count of animal cruelty for mistreatment and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty for failure to provide medical care.

It breaks my heart to think of Sampson being killed because of the monstrous abuse that he had received, I know that if it had been a human child we would have braced his poor broken neck and given him the surgeries he needed to heal.

I look into Abbie’s big chocolate brown eyes and promise her that I will always love and protect her, and wish that it was so simple for the rest of humanity.
