Sophia Rose’s Story
January 29, 2009
Sophia Rose is a beautiful purebred English Bulldog that ended up in a puppy mill because her puppies were considered more valuable then Sophia’s happiness. For six and a half years she was bred every single time she came into heat. That’s every six months!
The physical strain on her body might have killed a weaker dog, especially of the English Bulldog breed, where birthing can be so dangerous already. Most English Bulldogs have to be delivered surgically through Cesarean section (C-section) because the puppy’s heads are too large to fit through the mother’s birthing canal. English Bulldogs that don’t have proper medical supervision and care during birthing can and do die from it.
But not Sophia. She was a trooper for all those years, bravely delivering puppy after puppy, from the lonely isolation of her breeding crate. She didn’t have a family to love and support her. She didn’t have children to snuggle and play with her in the backyard. She lived in a tiny kennel with only her puppies to keep her company.
Yet despite this, Sophia has manage to maintain her sweet and gentle personality. She is now in the care of the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue, nursing her last two puppies, and hoping to find a happy family soon.
Please read her story and do what you can to help. You can help by donating to cover the costs of her care, or sponsoring one of her puppies. You can also watching her and her beautiful babies on their Webcam.
